Assessment Options

At Sankofa Wellness we offer Three options for assessment

Mental Health Check-Up

Ever wonder how mentally well or mentally ill you are? We all have some amount of anxiety, depression, and stress from time to time, but are your levels in the normal range or are they in the clinical range? And if they are in the clinical range, what do you do about it?

We believe that everyone deserves to know how healthy or unhealthy they are. While OHIP (the Ontario Health Insurance Plan) covers physical health check-ups, sadly, they don't cover mental health check-ups. As such, we want to offer this to you completely FREE.

Gaining Insight

Gaining Insight is offerred to everyone as a standard part of the process at Sankofa Wellness (as described here). This type of assessment will get you the answers to questions like "Why am I (or why are we) unhappy?"; "Why do I do the things I do?"; "What do I need to do to be the person I want to be and/or live the life I want to live?". Many people spend a lot of time (and money) in therapy just to get the answers to these questions. For many people, these insights are all they need to start living a happier life.

We will be asking for information about your concerns, personality, mental health history, developmental history, medical history, and life history, however, our goal is not to give you a diagnosis.

This gives us the flexibility to make this part of the process lower cost for those who have financial constraints. We are aiming to get to know you better so we can create a cutsom-made treatment plan and provide you with recommendations (which may include letting you know if a psychodiagnostic assessment would be worthwhile for you).

Psychodiagnostic Assessment

This type of assessment are for those who are specifically wanting to know if they have a formal and diagnosable mental health disorder. As with Gaining Insight, this process involves gathering information about your symptoms, mental health, developmental history, medical history, and life history.

However this process requires more comprehensive interviewing and completing comprehensive assessment tools in order to determine if you meet criteria for a DSM-5 mental health condition. This process requires more hands on time and therefore it costs moore. The exact cost of the psychodiagnostic assessment varies depending on the complexity of the concern. On average, the cost for this kind of assessment ranges from $2500 to $3000.
